About the Role

Temporary, full-time (1.00 FTE) teaching position at Hazelton Secondary School, Hazelton, BC. The role involves instructing Metalwork 10-12, Automotive 10-12, Metalwork Mosaic 9, Automotive Mosaic 9, and Contemporary Indigenous Studies 12, with potential for other teaching assignments. The position starts September 1, 2026, and ends June 30, 2027, or upon the return of the incumbent, whichever occurs first.

About the School District

Coast Mountains School District 82 serves approximately 4,100 students across nineteen schools, including three alternate programs and a trades learning centre offering dual-credit, distance learning, and continuing education. The district covers a geographical area equivalent to the size of Finland and encompasses the traditional territories of the Gitxsan, Haisla, Nisga’a, and Tsimshian Indigenous nations. Main communities include the Hazeltons, Kitimat, Stewart, Terrace, and Thornhill. The district employs around 800 staff and operates with an annual budget of approximately $66 million.

The richness of local Indigenous culture and history positively influences all schools, benefiting both Indigenous and non-Indigenous learners. The district is committed to supporting each learner’s unique needs to prepare them for success in a rapidly changing world.

Responsibilities

  • Teach Metalwork 10-12, Automotive 10-12, Metalwork Mosaic 9, Automotive Mosaic 9, and Contemporary Indigenous Studies 12.
  • Develop and implement individualized learning plans for students with academic, social, and emotional learning difficulties.
  • Apply strong classroom management skills.
  • Collaborate with staff, parents, and students to foster a positive learning environment.
  • Follow the goals and strategies outlined in the school and district framework for enhanced learning.
  • Work with the revised BC Curriculum, including learning standards, curricular competencies, and core competencies.

Requirements

  • Valid BC Ministry of Education Teaching Certificate (or eligibility to obtain one).
  • Experience teaching students at all grade levels.
  • Working knowledge of the revised BC Curriculum.
  • Ability to work as part of a team to support diverse learning needs.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to relate well with students, parents, and staff.
  • Legal eligibility to work in Canada.

Pay

Salary ranges from $63,513 to $117,454 (based on 1.00 FTE, previous experience, and TQS Category placement), as per the collective agreement between the Coast Mountain Teachers' Federation and the Board of School Trustees.

Additional financial allowances include:

  • $1,000 - $5,000 relocation allowance for teachers from other areas (conditions may apply).
  • $3,500 Recruitment and Retention allowance for all teachers (paid over 10 months of the school year, based on FTE).
  • Isolation Allowance for remote communities: Hazelton - $1,287, Kitwanga - $1,528, Stewart - $4,824 (paid over 10 months of the school year).

Schedule
