2027 Summer Intern – Manufacturing Quality Engineer

About the role

As a Quality Engineer Intern at GM, you will drive problem solving and resolutions based on data-driven solutions to suppliers and internal customers. You will function as a technical liaison between production operations, engineering, suppliers, and supplier quality at a GM manufacturing plant. Responsibilities

  • Interact with production and engineering on part measurement results relative to part print specifications to ensure quality and reliability
  • Ensure effective containment and resolution to identified non-conforming product
  • Communicate emerging issues for responsible components daily to the Quality Systems Manager
  • Coordinate repair, rework, and containment activities for identified spills
  • Validate supplier scrap
  • Work with the Supplier Practical Problem Solving (SPPS) process on supplier-related issues
  • Support the PTR Process by running PTRs and evaluating impact on product/function
  • Support launch activities of new products
  • Support the implementation and effective adherence to all elements within GMS

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Quality Engineering
  • Must be graduating between August 2027 and June 2029
  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Willing to work in a plant environment

  • Proficient in reading part drawings and interpretation of part measurements
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across varying levels of the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex subjects for a broader audience
  • Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability, and trust
  • Consistently demonstrates innovative, customer-centric thinking
  • Excellent project management skills and the proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to walk and stand for prolonged periods
  • Ability to read standardized work instructions, operate machines and tools, and perform quality inspections
  • Ability to promptly detect and respond to safety instructions, alarms, and signals
  • Wear personal protective equipment (e.g., safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, safety shoes)
  • Work in a loud manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled (conditions can be hot or cold)
  • Frequently and repetitively bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach to perform work
  • Lift or carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds and periodically carry or lift materials weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Occasionally sit, climb (including ladders and lifts), and drive vehicles and equipment

Work Arrangement

This role is categorized as onsite. The successful candidate is expected to report to their assigned facility on a full-time basis.
