What You’ll Do

As a Quality Engineer Intern at GM, you would drive problem solving and resolutions based on data driven solutions to suppliers and internal customers. Your work would involve functioning as a technical liaison between production operations, engineering, suppliers, and supplier quality at a GM manufacturing plant.

Responsibilities

  • Interact with production and engineering on part measurement results to part print specifications to assure quality and reliability
  • Ensure effective containment and resolution to identified non-conforming product
  • Communicate emerging issues for responsible components daily to Quality Systems Manager
  • Coordinate repair, rework, and containment activities for identified spills
  • Validate supplier scrap
  • Work with Supplier Practical Problem Solving (SPPS) process on supplier related issues
  • Support the PTR Process by running PTR's and evaluating impact on the product / function
  • Support launch activities of new products
  • Support the implementation and effective adherence to all elements within GMS

Required Qualifications

  • Pursuit of a Bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or Quality Engineering
  • Must be graduating between August 2027 and June 2029
  • Able to work full-time, 40 hours per week
  • Must be willing to work in a plant environment

  • Proficient in reading part drawings and interpretation of part measurements
  • Outstanding interpersonal and relationship management skills with the ability to effectively collaborate with varying levels of the organization
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to distill complex subjects to a wider audience
  • Evidence of strong character with integrity, honesty, accountability and trust
  • Consistently demonstrates innovative thinking that is customer-centric
  • Excellent project management skills and the proven ability to manage multiple projects at any given time

Physical Requirements

  • Walk and stand for prolonged periods of time
  • Read standardized work instructions, operate machines and tools, and perform quality inspections
  • Promptly detect and respond to safety instructions, alarms, and signals
  • Wear personal protective equipment, for example: safety glasses, gloves, hats, ear plugs, and safety shoes
  • Work in a loud manufacturing environment that is not climate controlled (conditions can be hot or cold)
  • Frequently and repetitively bend, twist, kneel, crouch, and reach to perform work
  • Lift or carry materials weighing up to 15 pounds and periodically carry or lift materials weighing up to 40 lbs
  • Occasionally sit, climb (including ladders and lifts) and drive vehicles and equipment

Work Arrangement

Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to their assigned facility on a full-time basis.

Locations: Bedford, IN; Fairfax, KS; Flint, MI; Grand Rapids, MI; Marion, IN; Saginaw, MI; Wentzville, MO. Please indicate in your application which of these locations you are interested in.

Start dates: May 24th and June 14th of 2027.
