2027 Summer Associate – Life Sciences Partnering

About the role

Cooley LLP is recruiting JD 2028 students to join its Boston, New York, Palo Alto, Reston San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington, DC offices as summer associates in its Life Sciences Corporate Partnering and Licensing for the 2027 Summer Program.

Responsibilities

• Assist in drafting and negotiating various types of licensing-related agreements, including research collaborations, territory-specific licenses, co-development agreements, spin-out transactions, asset divestitures, joint ventures, and options to license or acquire.
• Work on a wide range of transactions involving technologies across the therapeutic, diagnostic, medical device, and agricultural biotechnology fields.
• Contribute to client meetings and presentations, providing legal advice and support.
• Research and analyze complex legal issues related to licensing and intellectual property.
• Collaborate with other attorneys and departments within Cooley LLP to ensure seamless execution of projects.

Qualifications

• A technical background, particularly in biology, chemistry, medicine, or something similar, is helpful but not required.
• An interest in learning about and understanding new technologies is essential.
• Patent prosecution experience or knowledge of patent law is also a plus but not a prerequisite.

Benefits

• Summer associate salary based on an annualized rate of $225,000, with semi-monthly base pay of $9,375.00, subject to payroll withholdings and deductions.

Schedule
