About the role
Cooley LLP is recruiting JD 2028 students to join its Boston, New York, Palo Alto, Reston San Diego, San Francisco, and Washington, DC offices as summer associates in its Life Sciences Corporate Partnering and Licensing for the 2027 Summer Program.
Responsibilities
- Assist in drafting and negotiating complex licensing agreements and other related documents
- Research and analyze legal issues relevant to life sciences transactions
- Participate in client meetings and discussions
- Contribute to the development of new business opportunities
- Support the preparation of legal opinions and memoranda
- Collaborate with colleagues in different practice areas
Requirements
- JD 2028 student
- Exceptional academic achievement and professional excellence
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Strong legal research and writing skills
- Sound judgment with proven problem-solving skills
- Initiative, motivation, and a service-oriented mindset
- Meaningful prior work experience
- Engage in extracurricular or leadership activities

Qualifications
- A technical background, particularly in biology, chemistry, medicine, or something similar, is helpful but not required
- An interest in learning about and understanding new technologies is essential
- Patent prosecution experience or knowledge of patent law is also a plus but not a prerequisite
Benefits
The expected salary is based on an annualized rate of $225,000, with semi-monthly base pay of $9,375.00, subject to payroll withholdings and deductions.
Schedule
Summer associates typically work 60-70 hours per week from June through August.
