About The Role

The Summer Associate role involves both quantitative and qualitative work, tailored to project needs and the associate’s skills and interests. Projects may include subject matter research, data collection, and preparation of economic, statistical, financial, and other analyses. The program is approximately 8 weeks long, beginning in Summer 2027, and serves as a pipeline for full-time Associate roles post-graduation, assuming mutual fit.

Summer Associates receive dedicated mentors, training programs, hands-on learning opportunities, and support from industry experts.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a practical understanding of industries, markets, legal claims, and business issues by gathering and reviewing information from clients, academic literature, legal documents, industry resources, commercial databases, and other project-specific sources.
  • Identify, collect, develop, maintain, analyze, and review data, qualitative materials, spreadsheets, and other files as dictated by complex project needs.
  • Combine programming, model building, and statistical analysis skills using relational databases and statistical programs (e.g., SQL, R, Stata, SAS, Python, Snowflake) to analyze a variety of subjects.
  • Interact with senior staff, experts, and clients to clearly communicate questions, findings, economic and business concepts, and recommendations.
  • Demonstrate creativity and efficient analytical skills to develop novel solutions tailored to unique projects.
  • Provide valuable contributions to client deliverables and expert reports.

Requirements

  • Progression toward a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Mathematics, Data Science, Statistics, Accounting, Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related analytical field, with an expected graduation date between Winter 2027 and Summer 2028.
  • 3.6 GPA or higher preferred.
  • Demonstrated interest in applying analytics to business, financial, legal, regulatory, or policy questions.
  • Strong quantitative, research, problem-solving, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, client-service environment.
  • Attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
  • Experience with statistical, econometric, and programming tools such as Excel, Stata, R, Python, SQL, or similar platforms is preferred.
  • Fluency with AI tools is desirable.
  • Must be able to submit verification of legal right to work in the United States without company sponsorship now or in the future.

Practice Areas

Summer Associates support project work aligned with one of BRG’s practice areas, with potential flexibility to work across multiple areas. Candidates may select a preferred practice area during the application process.

  • Antitrust & Competition: Experts apply industrial organization, econometrics, and microeconomic theory to provide testimony in antitrust litigation and merger reviews. Work includes evaluating industry conduct, calculating damages, and building simulation models for proposed mergers.
  • Business Insurance Claims (BIC): Provides strategic guidance to policyholders post-catastrophe, including financial data analysis, robust modeling, and preparation of comprehensive insurance claims to accelerate resolution and maximize payments.
  • Construction: Specializes in data analytics, litigation support, claims/dispute analysis, scheduling/logistics management, and expert witness testimony. Services include budget advisory, loss assessment, project management, and constructability analyses.
  • Commercial Disputes: Combines analytical and accounting skills with industry-specific knowledge to support legal processes, including case assessment, damages analysis, litigation support, and expert testimony.
  • Consumer Protection, Product Liability & Environment: Addresses matters involving consumer fraud, product liability, false advertising, data privacy, and environmental law using microeconomic theory, econometrics, and marketing techniques.
  • Energy & Climate: Helps clients across the global energy value chain address strategic, commercial, financial, market, regulatory, and dispute-related issues. Work spans power, utilities, oil and gas, renewables, storage, advanced nuclear, eMobility, hydrogen, carbon management, and infrastructure.
  • Financial Institutions Advisory: Advises financial services companies on risk and regulation, compliance, financial crime, technology innovations, cryptocurrency, blockchain, and customer experience expectations.
  • Healthcare Advisory: Partners with healthcare organizations to identify opportunities and implement solutions in strategy, revenue management, operational excellence, clinical transformation, and technology/AI.
  • Healthcare Analytics and Disputes: Tackles complex legal and operational challenges using data-driven approaches, combining industry expertise with research, analytics, and financial modeling.
  • Intellectual Property: Experts testify on damages, trademark confusion, irreparable harm, and commercial success. Work includes building econometric models, analyzing survey data, and preparing expert reports for patent, trademark, trade secret, and copyright cases.

Locations

Summer Associates will primarily be hired in major offices such as Boston, Washington DC, Chicago, New York, Houston, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area, with limited opportunities in smaller offices like Tampa and Pittsburgh. Roles are in-office five days per week to maximize mentorship and collaboration. Remote roles may be available for practices requiring frequent client-site travel.

Pay

$25/hour - $40/hour
