2027 Summer Associate (Intern)

About the Role

The work of a Summer Associate can have quantitative and qualitative aspects, depending on the needs of specific projects and the Summer Associate’s skills and interests. Projects range from subject matter research to data collection, to the preparation of economic, statistical, financial, and other forms of analysis. You will build technical skills and contribute to work that shapes important legal and business outcomes.

The Summer Associate program will be approximately 8 weeks long and begin in Summer 2027. We’re committed to helping our Summer Associates succeed by providing them with dedicated mentors, training programs, hands-on learning opportunities, and support from industry experts. Our Summer Associate program is a pipeline program, and we aim to convert Summer Associates to full-time Associates after graduation, assuming the role is a fit on both ends.

Responsibilities

• Develop a practical understanding of industries, markets, legal claims, and business issues relevant to each engagement by gathering and reviewing information from our clients and their business, academic literature, legal documents, specialized industry resources, commercial databases, or other sources appropriate for the unique requirements of a project.
• Identify, collect, develop, maintain, analyze, and review data, qualitative materials, spreadsheets, and other files as dictated by complex project needs.
• Combine programming, model building, and statistical analysis skills using relational database and statistical programs to analyze a variety of subjects with software such as SQL, R, Stata, SAS, Python, or Snowflake.
• Interact with senior staff, experts, and clients to clearly communicate questions, findings, economic and business concepts, and recommendations.
• Demonstrate creativity and efficient analytical skills to develop novel solutions tailored to unique projects.
• Provide valuable contributions to client deliverables and expert reports.

Requirements

• Progression towards a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Economics, Mathematics, Data Science, Statistics, Accounting, Business, Finance, Healthcare Administration, or a related analytical field, with an expected graduation date between Winter 2027 and Summer 2028.
• 3.6 GPA or higher preferred.
• Demonstrated interest in applying analytics to business, financial, legal, regulatory, or policy questions.
• Strong quantitative, research, problem-solving, and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, client-service environment.
• Attention to detail, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to producing high-quality work.
• Experience with statistical, econometric, and programming tools such as Excel, Stata, R, Python, SQL, or similar platforms is preferred.
• Fluency with AI tools is desirable.
• Candidates must be able to submit verification of their legal right to work in the United States, without company sponsorship now or in the future.

Practice Areas

Summer Associates are hired to support project work aligned to one of BRG’s practice areas, though there may be flexibility to work across multiple practice areas. Candidates can select a preferred practice area as part of the application process.

• Antitrust & Competition: Experts in our antitrust practice apply learning from industrial organization, econometrics, and microeconomic theory to provide testimony to counsel, corporations, and governments in matters involving antitrust litigation and merger reviews. Our experts and academic affiliates have testified in some of the largest and most significant antitrust matters of the past two decades. Project teams frequently evaluate industry conduct, assess antitrust liability, calculate damages from anticompetitive conduct, and build simulation models to understand the impacts of proposed mergers.
• Business Insurance Claims (BIC): We provide immediate and strategic guidance to policyholders following a catastrophe. Our BIC experts meticulously analyze financial data and operational records, develop robust financial models, and prepare comprehensive, well-documented insurance claims, accelerating resolution and maximizing claim payments.
• Construction: We specialize in data analytics, litigation support, claims/dispute analysis, scheduling/logistics management, and expert witness testimony within the construction, engineering, and architectural fields. Our team supports clients through budget and payment advisory, loss assessment and valuation, estimations and takeoffs, and insurance and damages claim valuations.
• Commercial Disputes: We combine exceptional analytical and accounting skills and industry-specific knowledge to provide comprehensive support throughout the legal process, including case assessment, damages analysis, litigation support, and expert testimony.
• Consumer Protection, Product Liability & Environment: Our experts address matters involving claims of consumer fraud, product liability, false advertising, data privacy and data breach, and alleged violations of environmental and natural resource law using techniques from microeconomic theory, econometrics, marketing, and environmental and resource economics.
• Energy & Climate: We help clients across the global energy value chain address complex strategic, commercial, financial, market, regulatory, and dispute-related issues. Our work spans power and utilities, oil and gas, renewables, storage, advanced nuclear, eMobility, hydrogen and low-carbon fuels, carbon management, infrastructure, and the broader energy transition.
• Financial Institutions Advisory: We advise leading financial services companies on risk and regulation, compliance, financial crime, innovations in technology, accounting, cryptocurrency and blockchain, business process outsourcing, and evolving customer experience expectations.
• Healthcare Advisory: We work alongside executive teams and governing bodies to identify opportunities, implement practical solutions, and deliver measurable, lasting results in areas such as strategy, revenue management, operational excellence, clinical transformation, and technology and AI.
• Healthcare Analytics and Disputes: We tackle complex legal and operational challenges in the healthcare industry using data-driven, objective, and innovative approaches, combining deep healthcare industry expertise with cutting-edge research, analytics, and financial modeling.
• Intellectual Property: Our experts testify on damages, trademark confusion, irreparable harm, and commercial success in patent infringement, trademark infringement, trade secret misappropriation, and copyright infringement cases. Associates build econometric models, analyze survey data, and assist with expert reports.

Locations

Summer Associates will primarily be hired in locations like Boston, Washington DC, Chicago, New York, Houston, Los Angeles, and the San Francisco Bay Area. There are also a limited number of opportunities in smaller offices like Tampa and Pittsburgh. Summer Associates are expected to work in the office five days per week to take full advantage of mentorship, collaboration, and relationship-building opportunities. Remote roles for practices that require frequent travel to client sites are also available.

Pay

$25/hour - $40/hour
