About the role

West Monroe is seeking Consulting Interns to join our Software discipline and Software Engineering team within our Technology and Experience (TechEx) Practice. Our Software team works across diverse industries such as startups, finance, healthcare, insurance, and energy. As a Software Engineering (AI Concentration) Consulting Intern, you will work directly with a product team to understand our clients’ business needs and strategies, delivering solutions that range from bond trading platforms integrated with various AI models to modernized legacy software, AI agents, web-based and native mobile applications. You will learn and receive mentorship from experienced professionals in software engineering, product development and consulting, working alongside senior software engineers, product managers, designers and executives. This role offers interns the chance to gain valuable insights and enhance their skills in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Responsibilities

Functional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with team members to design and develop software applications
  • Work closely with clients to understand their business needs
  • Utilize an Agile approach for iterative product delivery
  • Leverage AI tools to accelerate analysis, synthesize complex information, and support data-driven recommendations for clients, exercising sound judgment in evaluating outputs
  • Apply AI technologies (e.g., generative AI, automation tools, data models) to enhance insights, improve delivery efficiency, and elevate the quality of client outcomes

Technologies and Tools

You will gain proficiency and hands-on experience with a range of our key technologies (previous experience is not required):

  • Back-end: C#, Java, JavaScript, TypeScript, Ruby, Python
  • Front-end: JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular, React, VueJS, HTML5, CSS3
  • Mobile: Swift, Kotlin
  • Database: SQL Server, MongoDB, PostgreSQL
  • Cloud: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services (AWS), Google Cloud
  • AI Experience: LLM integration, prompt engineering, agent-based systems, RAG pipelines, AI-enabled development workflows

You will learn and work with several of the following patterns & tools (previous experience is not required):

  • Patterns: MVC, MVVM, Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), REST, GraphQL
  • Source Control: Git, Azure DevOps
  • DevOps Tooling: Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes
  • Package Management: Bower, NPM, Yarn, NuGet
  • Testing: XUnit, MSTest, Jasmine, Karma, JUnit, RSpec

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in progress, with an expected graduation date between December 2027 and August 2028
  • You will be asked to confirm your expected graduation month and year at the offer stage and prior to beginning your internship
  • We do request & review official transcripts from your school prior to the start of our internship program
  • If your expected graduation date falls outside of this range or changes, you are not eligible for this internship
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without limitation or sponsorship now or in the future (e.g., OPT, H-1B visa, TN, etc.)
  • Reside within 50 miles of your assigned office prior to your start date; our culture emphasizes team collaboration within a hybrid work model
  • Ability and willingness to travel (up to 50%); travel expenses covered by West Monroe
  • Experience integrating AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT) into day-to-day workflows to enhance productivity and insight generation, coupled with strong critical thinking to assess accuracy, mitigate bias, and ensure high-quality outputs

Pay

The pay rate for this role is $40.00.
