Job Summary
Research & Development engineers develop new products, redesign existing products, and perform research and testing on product concepts. R&D engineers work in a collaborative environment that includes other engineers, marketing professionals, and manufacturers. Assignments are executed under the direction of the R&D Supervisor/Manager with an emphasis on meeting and/or exceeding customer requirements.
Responsibilities
- Manage the planning, development, and execution of important engineering projects
- Coordinate with both internal customers as well as multiple outside suppliers to ensure Design for Manufacturability, cost, and schedule goals are met
- Use advanced engineering principles and problem-solving capabilities to provide technical solutions for a wide range of tasks
- Design and build prototypes of system components for testing
- Develop required test procedures and coordinate testing with other applicable groups
- Work effectively in a cross-functional and diverse team environment
- Navigate successfully through ambiguity
- Act as liaison with representatives outside of the assigned group/area
- Drive improvements to daily processes and ensure all work meets or exceeds customer requirements
- Maintain current knowledge of developments in the field of specialty and/or other related aircraft fields to recommend innovations that improve quality and effectiveness of company products and processes
Education
- Pursuing Bachelor's Degree in: Engineering, Industrial Design, or other related technical field
Qualifications
- Professional and diplomatic demeanor
- Strong sense of accountability and integrity
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Time management skills to support multiple concurrent projects
- Ability to deal with change and work in a dynamic environment
- Proficient in use of standard Microsoft Office programs
- Experience in CATIA is preferred
- Applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the U.S. for Textron Aviation at the time of making application; visa sponsorship is not available for this position, including for F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors who will need employment sponsorship
Schedule
Summer internships are 40 hours per week typically from late-May to early-August lasting 10 weeks. Candidates must be able to work onsite for the entirety of the internship program unless approved otherwise by the hiring manager.
