2027 2L Summer Associate (Cross-Border Practice Group)

Position Summary

Ogletree Deakins has a unique opportunity for a Summer Associate to join our Cross-Border Practice Group for a 10-week summer program in our Atlanta, New York City, Washington, DC, Chicago, or San Francisco offices. We are seeking an entrepreneurial and creative law student with a demonstrated interest in international labor and employment law.

Essential Functions

• Research international employment law issues across multiple jurisdictions, including statutory entitlements, termination requirements, restrictive covenant enforceability, and labor code compliance.
• Draft and revise client-facing work product, including advisory memos, jurisdiction comparison charts, contract redlines, and compliance checklists.
• Affiliate with cross-border restructuring and RIF analysis, including statutory entitlement calculations and required consultation procedures.
• Support remote work compliance reviews, including analysis of immigration, tax, and employment law implications for employees working across borders.
• Participate in client calls and internal strategy sessions.
• Participate in legal research and strategy calls with local counsel.
• Wide variety of other assignments.

Requirements

• Fluency is a second language is preferred, but not required.
• Participation in extracurricular activities highlighting leadership skills, commitment, and time management.
• Class standing in the top 1/3
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work well with others and independently.
• Demonstrated entrepreneurial mindset.
• Interest in pursuing a career in management-side labor and employment law upon graduation from law school.
• Undergraduate Degree that demonstrates academic excellence and critical thinking ability.
