Lifeguard
Position requires current Red Cross LGT/AED/First Aid/CPR certification or ability to attain certification before working.
Individuals must possess excellent communication skills, team leadership qualities, precise decision-making ability, and thorough knowledge/application of lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques. Swim Lesson teaching experience preferred.
Applicants must be at least 15 years old. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
- Season Length: Memorial Day - August
- Average Weekly Workload: varies 10-40+ hours (including nights, weekends & holidays)
- Starting Wage: $13.24+
Cashier
Requires excellent verbal communication and customer service with patrons at Harlan Rogers and Rosedale Rapids. Individuals must be proficient at counting back change, able to enforce complex rules and policies, and possess computer skills.
Cashiers at Rosedale Rapids are required to have CPR/First Aid and are also Slide Attendants.
- Season Length: May- August
- Average Weekly Workload: 5-20 hours (including nights, weekends & holidays)
- Starting Wage: $10.28+
Community Recreation
- Responsibilities may include assisting with programs, activities, and recreational sports; providing customer service; communicating expectations clearly; helping ensure a safe and welcoming environment; setting up and taking down equipment; and enforcing program and facility rules.
- This position requires strong verbal communication skills, the ability to work well with all ages, and a dependable, positive attitude.
- May be required to open or close recreation spaces and assist with general site needs as assigned.
- Must be able to work mornings, evenings, and weekends. Hours vary based on seasonal sports, activities, and program schedules.
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
Typical Qualifications
- All applicants must demonstrate an appropriate level of physical fitness and coordination, carry or assist in the movement of materials and supplies up to 50 pounds to fulfill the mission of the employer.
- All employees must be able to handle weather, including, but not limited to heat, humidity, cold and sunny conditions.

Seasonal Employment Acknowledgment
I acknowledge and understand that employment with the City of Fort Dodge is classified as seasonal, contingent upon the operational needs as determined by Fort Dodge Recreation Services for the upcoming season. I recognize that this seasonal employment agreement does not constitute an ongoing employment relationship and that, if hired, my employment with the City of Fort Dodge will automatically terminate at the conclusion of the season. I know that if I am interested in returning to work for the City of Fort Dodge for subsequent seasons, I must reapply for employment. I understand that applying for reemployment does not guarantee that I will be rehired, as all hiring decisions are contingent upon Fort Dodge Recreation Services' operational requirements and staffing needs at that time, as well as my performance during previous employment periods. I further acknowledge that the City of Fort Dodge reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to not offer employment for any reason not prohibited by law and that reapplication does not ensure priority over new applicants.
