Aurora PhotoCenter seeks candidates for the 2026 Lamar Richcreek Memorial Fall Internship. Lamar Richcreek was a fine art photographer and an instructor of photography and lab manager at Herron School of Art and Design on the IUPUI campus for 20 years. This endowed internship recognizes Richcreek’s lifelong commitment to learning, an appreciation for people of all types and cultures, the power of the arts, and the importance of integrity and respect for all.

About the role

We can tailor the internship to the intern’s interest and needs. Some core projects for Aurora’s fall intern could include:

  • Install and deinstall of Aurora’s Fall/Winter exhibitions
  • Assist at openings and events, including workshops
  • Document exhibitions, openings, workshops, artist visits, and special events
  • Tutor new members on film development and printing in the darkroom and digital lab
  • Develop a workshop concept and curriculum
  • Produce marketing and promotional interviews and other videos
  • General cleaning (once per month and as needed)
  • Darkroom chemistry and equipment maintenance
  • Assist visiting artists and residents
  • Catalog donations

We also ask that the intern undertake one long-term project to be completed over the course of the internship. We will work with the intern to identify and plan this project. Examples of past long-term projects include:

  • Creating a searchable online database for the photobook library
  • Building a spent-silver filter for the black-and-white darkroom
  • Creating a social media calendar for Aurora
  • Resetting all gallery lights to consistent color temperature
  • Researching new equipment for the labs

Requirements

  • Priority consideration will be given to applicants currently enrolled in coursework in the fine arts or arts administration at an accredited college or university who hope to teach photography and studio arts in their future careers
  • Recent graduates and those with applicable experience should also apply
  • Strong interest in and knowledge of analog and digital photography, exhibitions, workshops, and events a plus
  • Intern must be reliable and capable of working independently

Aurora PhotoCenter is an Indianapolis-based nonprofit that supports visual artists working in photography through a full program of exhibitions, residencies, workshops, artist talks, and access to creative tools, including our darkroom and digital lab.

Pay

$2,000 stipend

Schedule

  • Term: September 1–December 18, 2026
  • 10 hours/week
