About the Role
The Assessment EL Testing and Data Specialist supports the instructional program by managing the identification, screening, testing, and placement of limited English proficient students. Responsibilities include administering tests, training staff, coordinating state testing, and collecting data. This role reports to the Director of Assessment.
Responsibilities
- Provide technical and resource assistance to ELL testing clerks, record secretaries, and registrars at school sites, including training on testing protocols, reporting procedures, and use of the Tide and AZELLA Training Systems.
- Attend required school, district meetings, and AZELLA training to convey and gather information for job functions.
- Complete documents related to scoring and reporting language proficiency test results to ensure compliance with current regulations.
- Coordinate testing of individual students or groups in English using district language proficiency assessments at all schools (travel required).
- Prepare, review, and maintain current student data files to ensure compliance with district, state, and federal regulations.
- Respond to inquiries from school district personnel and other districts to provide information and direction about students.
- Administer and score assessments, verify data, and ensure accurate data entry to determine appropriate student placement and/or referral.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Job-related experience is required.
- Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (www.azdps.gov/services/public/fingerprint).
- Driver’s License and evidence of insurability.
- Online Driver Training Certification.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
- Skills: Translating written documents; operating standard office equipment and pertinent software applications; preparing and maintaining accurate records.
- Knowledge: Basic math (fractions, percents, ratios); reading manuals; writing documents in prescribed formats; presenting information; understanding complex, multi-step instructions. Preferred: concepts of grammar and punctuation in English and a second language; age-appropriate activities.
- Abilities:
- Schedule activities, meetings, or events; gather and collate data; use basic job-related equipment.
- Work flexibly with others, data, and equipment in varied circumstances.
- Communicate effectively with diverse groups, including those with limited English proficiency.

Work Environment
- Physical demands include some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity.
- Typical work distribution: 60% sitting, 20% walking, 20% standing.
- Performed under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
