One City Schools operates a two-generation public school authorized by the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents, offering a tuition-free education. We provide a longer school day and year, including 60 minutes of co-curricular extended-day learning academies in Sports, Fitness, STEM, Girl Scouts, Boys to Men, and Creative and Performing Arts. Educators work a standard 8-hour workday.

Our new $12 million, 13.5-acre campus in Monona, Wisconsin, includes a 157,000-square-foot school facility for grades K-12 and a 140,000-square-foot athletic center with an indoor soccer field, basketball courts, weight training and cardio rooms, locker rooms, and underground access to the school. The campus also features a wooded nature area for science and outdoor learning, outdoor play space, and is located near Lake Monona, just 10 minutes from downtown Madison.

Responsibilities

• Establish a classroom culture that is safe, collaborative, celebratory, and intellectually challenging, ensuring learning goals for all students are met.
• Develop and execute units of study and lesson plans aligning State Standards, EL Education, and related curricula in math, science, and social studies to promote in-depth understanding, critical thinking, problem-solving, character development, and high-quality work.
• Monitor and supervise effective classroom and school-wide structures that promote active, student-driven learning and positive student behavior and safety.
• Maintain an orderly, academically-focused classroom environment and manage instructional materials and records effectively.
• Stay current in knowledge and practice of curriculum, child development, and relevant learning theories; share knowledge to improve One City’s educational program and curriculum.
• Assist in ongoing curriculum reviews, providing feedback on school and program effectiveness.
• Become acquainted with supplemental materials and services beneficial to students as an extension of regular classroom activities.
• Build and maintain positive, engaging relationships with parents/families to strengthen the educational program for their children.
• Utilize effective practices for community building, including rituals and traditions that foster a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.
• Use authentic formative and summative assessments to gauge learning, guide instruction, and provide timely feedback to students.
• Participate in regular and ongoing professional development and collaborate with grade-level teams to improve professional practice.
• Engage fully in the staff culture and relentlessly pursue the school’s mission.
• Work cooperatively with grade-level and school teams in instruction, assessment, documentation, parent/guardian involvement, and classroom management.

Requirements

• Strong commitment to the mission, vision, goals, and objectives of One City, and to working with young children from diverse racial/cultural populations and their families; experience with diverse children preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree in elementary education or a related field.
• Experience in EL (Expeditionary Learning) or student-led project-based learning is a plus.
• Valid Wisconsin Educators License or willingness to become certified as soon as possible.
• Minimum of two (2) years teaching experience preferred but not required; urban teaching (or student-teaching) experience and teaching children from racial, ethnic, and linguistically diverse backgrounds also preferred.
• Ability to regularly and routinely lift and push at least 50 pounds.
• Completion of a background check required.
• Must be at least 18 years of age.
