About the role

The Student Intervention Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting teachers and students within the Hancock County School District. This position is part of the Curriculum & Instruction Department and reports directly to the Curriculum Coordinator.

Responsibilities

  • Attends Teacher Support Team (TST) trainings and understands the process steps and procedures for MSIS generated students and referred students.
  • Gains an understanding of the district's computer programs used for interventions and researches new intervention programs.
  • Aids teachers in developing interventions using research-based strategies and ensures these interventions are implemented correctly.
  • Monitors student progress weekly during Tier II and Tier III interventions and reports any issues to the principal.
  • Observes students in regular classroom settings and makes recommendations to improve their learning environment.
  • Conducts weekly progress monitoring probes and attends TST meetings to make recommendations for interventions.
  • Reviews the MSIS generated list each week with the principal and TST, ensuring interventions are documented appropriately.
  • Communicates with parents/guardians about student progress and completes monthly reports for the TST/RTI Committee.
  • Maintains good public relations with parents and students and assists in upholding school rules and regulations.
  • Updates teaching licenses as required and cooperates with school and system-level staff in achieving system-wide goals and objectives.
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities assigned by the Curriculum Coordinator.

Requirements

  • Valid Mississippi Educator License.
  • Knowledge of district policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Response to Intervention (RTI) process.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Proficiency in technology.

Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of curriculum, staff development, and school improvement.
  • Considerable knowledge of district policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Response to Intervention (RTI) process.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all staff.
  • Must pass a criminal background check as prescribed by state statute.
