Responsibilities

• Administers developmental testing programs and subject-specific assessments to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
• Administers first aid and assistance to medically fragile children (e.g., tube feeding, toileting, diapering) as assigned.
• Advises parents and legal guardians of student progress to communicate expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
• Assesses student progress toward behavioral, motor development, communication, academic, and vocational goals.
• Collaborates with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes.
• Counsels students to improve performance, health status, problem-solving, and personal issues.
• Demonstrates pedagogical approaches that engage learners and address individual student requirements.
• Differentiates classroom work to provide instructional materials that address individualized learning programs.
• Directs assistant teachers, student teachers, paraprofessionals, volunteers, and student workers.
• Instructs students to improve academic, interpersonal, and daily living skills.
• Maintains confidential and non-confidential files and records in accordance with guidelines and legal requirements.
• Manages student behavior to provide a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitors students in classrooms, playgrounds, field trips, nap times, and other educational environments.
• Orders supplies and equipment as needed.

• Prepares written materials including attendance records, anecdotal records, and IEPs.
• Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies.
• Responds to emergency situations and inquiries from teachers, parents, and administrators.
• Serves as case manager for special education students, managing IEPs in accordance with guidelines and legal requirements.
• Supports classroom teachers in implementing curriculum and individual student plans.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in a job-related area.

Experience: Job-related experience is desired.
