About the role

The Instructional Assistant/SPED position at SUN Kids Preschool supports the instructional program by providing support to special needs students in various settings.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities, assignments and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher.
• Administers tests, homework, make-up work, etc.
• Assists medically fragile, physically disabled, or developmentally delayed students.
• Attends meetings and in-service presentations.
• Communicates with supervising instructional staff, professional support personnel, and parents.
• Escorts students.
• Implements behavioral plans designed by the IEP team.
• Intervenes in potential conflicts.
• Documents instructional materials and/or manual and electronic files/records.
• Models appropriate social behavior.
• Maintains student schedules and behavior plans.
• Maintains a safe and positive learning environment.
• Performs general clerical functions.
• Provides instruction to students.
• Remains with students at all times.
• Responds to emergency situations.

Requirements

• HS Diploma or GED
• One of the following:
• 60 postsecondary hours of college coursework;
• AA degree;
• Passing of ParaPro Assessment ETS
• ACT Workkeys
• The Master Teacher Para Educator

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent
