Duties

  • Co-teach the course based on syllabus and assignment guidelines provided by the lead instructor
  • Mark assignments and tests in a timely fashion
  • Lead tutorials
  • Hold one office hour per week

Course Descriptions

  • SMC188H1H: This seminar is an interdisciplinary exploration of leading scholarly, intellectual and public questions related to ecology, science, literature, and public life. From a variety of perspectives, the seminar considers how religion, and how different kinds of religious experience, figure in the broader context of human affairs.
  • SMC189H1H: This course provides an intensive international learning experience in Rome, Italy. It offers contemporary and historical models of integrating faith with reason, and religious practice with intellectual, creative, and public engagement, specifically the roles that the Catholic Church and Vatican play in Rome, in ecology, science, literature, and public life. This course includes a mandatory travel component to Rome, Italy, which takes place following the Winter term exam period.

Qualifications

  • PhD and evidence of established, up-to-date research expertise in the field of the program (Christianity and Culture) is essential.
  • University-level teaching experience in this interdisciplinary field, with evidence of successful teaching, is essential.
  • A commitment to education of the whole person is essential, as is experience using varied and flexible pedagogical methods.
  • A collaborative spirit and an ability to thrive as a team player are essential.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills are essential.
  • Experience leading groups of students on educational travel opportunities, in Canada and abroad, is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with the St. Michael’s community, including some previous contact with the Gilson Seminar, is preferred.

Salary: $19,994.55

Class Schedule

  • SMC188H1F: Tuesday 3PM – 5PM; tutorial – Wednesday 4PM – 5PM.
  • SMC189H1S: Tuesday 3PM – 5PM; this half-course also includes travel to Rome in May 2027.
