2026-27 Security and Safety Specialist .50 - North Canyon HS

Essential Functions

• Communicates safety and security policies procedures to students, staff and visitors.
• Makes sure students comply with established guidelines, maintain a safe and positive learning environment, and secure the facility.
• Patrols school facilities for safety and security.
• Assists with the implementation of the school's emergency response plan.
• Prepares written materials for documentation.
• Provides traffic and parking control.
• Reports incidents to appropriate personnel.
• Responds to various situations to resolve immediate safety and security concerns.
• Attends unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc.

Other Functions

• Supports and enhances campus culture.
• May assist or be assigned to other district campuses as needed.
• Participates in district/local in-service training.
• Attend district behavioral safety training for de escalation strategies.

Job Requirements

• Skills: Adhering to safety practices, operating standard office equipment, preparing and maintaining accurate records, understanding health standards and hazards, safety practices and procedures.
• Knowledge: Understanding written procedures, writing routine documents, speaking clearly, understanding multi-step written and oral instructions.
• Abilities: Scheduling activities, collating data, using basic, job-related equipment, adapting to changing work priorities, communicating with diverse groups, maintaining confidentiality, working as part of a team, setting priorities, working with frequent redirection of priorities and duties.

Responsibilities

• Working under direct supervision using standardized procedures.
• Providing information and/or advising others.
• Utilizing some resources from other work units as needed.

Work Environment

• Physical Demands: Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, some climbing and balancing, some stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling, significant fine finger dexterity.
• Work Environment: Temperature extremes, exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
