2026-27 Math Teacher - North Canyon HS

Non-interim, full-time (1.0 FTE) position starting 09/08/2026 at North Canyon High School.

About the Role

The Teacher - High School role supports the instructional process by developing student success in academics (e.g., math, reading, writing, language) and skills. Responsibilities include supervising students, developing and delivering lesson plans, collaborating with staff and administrators, and communicating with parents or guardians about student progress.

Responsibilities

• Administer subject-specific assessments to evaluate student competencies.
• Advise parents/guardians on student progress, expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
• Assess student progress and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives.
• Counsel students or refer them to appropriate personnel to address performance, health, or personal issues.
• Demonstrate engaging pedagogical approaches tailored to individual student needs.
• Differentiate classroom instruction to address individualized learning within established lesson plans.
• Direct student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, or student workers to support classroom programs.
• Instruct students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
• Manage student behavior to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitor students in various educational settings (e.g., classroom, campus, field trips) to maintain safety.
• Participate in meetings (district, staff, departmental) and PLC teams to review data and instructional practices.
• Prepare written materials (e.g., grades, attendance records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
• Report health and safety issues to administrators or appropriate agencies (e.g., fights, suspected abuse, substance abuse).
• Respond to emergency situations and direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.
• Address inquiries from teachers, parents, or administrators regarding issues, information, or direction.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient work unit functioning.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area.
• Arizona Teaching Certificate with appropriate core content area certification.
• SEI Endorsement required.
• Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Criminal background clearance.

Skills and Abilities

• Skills: Proficiency in assessment instruments, standard office equipment, software applications, record-keeping, curriculum and instructional techniques.
• Knowledge: Competency in algebra/geometry, technical reading and writing, group facilitation, and analysis of instructional situations. Familiarity with codes, policies, regulations, age-appropriate activities, lesson plan requirements, child development stages, behavioral management strategies, and assessment techniques.
• Abilities: Schedule activities and meetings, gather and classify data, operate job-related equipment, adapt to diverse circumstances and individuals, maintain confidentiality, exhibit tact and patience, work flexible hours, meet deadlines, and collaborate as part of a team.

Work Environment

The role requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling; and fine finger dexterity. The job involves 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing, with exposure to temperature extremes and some risk of injury or illness.
