Interim position at Paradise Valley High School for the Fall 2026 semester (07/30/2026 – 12/18/2026). This is a 0.33 FTE role.

About the Role

The Teacher – High School supports the instructional process by developing student success in academics, with specific responsibility for delivering Algebra I instruction. The role involves supervising students, developing lesson plans within established curriculum guidelines, collaborating with staff and administrators, and communicating with parents or guardians about student progress.

Responsibilities

  • Administer subject-specific assessments and tests to evaluate student competencies.
  • Advise parents/guardians on student progress, expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
  • Counsel students or refer them to appropriate personnel to address performance, health, or personal issues.
  • Demonstrate pedagogical approaches to engage learners and address individual student needs.
  • Differentiate classroom instruction to accommodate individualized learning within established lesson plans.
  • Direct student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, or student workers to support classroom programs.
  • Instruct students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Manage student behavior to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitor students in various educational settings (classroom, campus, field trips) to maintain safety and a positive learning environment.
  • Participate in meetings (district, staff, departmental) and PLC teams to review data and instructional practices.
  • Prepare written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Report health and safety issues to administrators or appropriate agencies to maintain student safety and comply with regulations.
  • Respond to emergencies and direct concerns to appropriate personnel for resolution.
  • Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, and administrators to provide information or direction.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.

Requirements

  • Ability to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with periodic skill upgrades.
  • Proficiency in operating standard office equipment and relevant software applications.
  • Knowledge of algebra and/or geometry, curriculum and instructional techniques, and lesson plan requirements.
  • Familiarity with age-appropriate activities, child development stages, and behavioral management strategies.
  • Ability to schedule activities, gather and classify data, and use job-related equipment.
  • Flexibility to work with diverse individuals and adapt to changing work priorities.
  • Problem-solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans.
  • Ability to establish constructive relationships, maintain confidentiality, and work flexible hours.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work as part of a team, and adhere to district policies and procedures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area.
  • Arizona Teaching Certificate with appropriate certification in the core content area (Algebra I).
  • SEI Endorsement required.
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Criminal background clearance.
  • Job-related experience is desired but not required.

Work Environment

The role involves occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling, as well as significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. The position requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing. Work is performed under some temperature extremes and conditions with exposure to risk of injury or illness.
