About the Role

This position is for a certified Special Education Teacher (Mild/Moderate Disabilities) serving pre-K through 12th grade students in the school district. The teacher must hold a valid Mississippi Teaching License with a 221 Endorsement and ensure their MDE Course Code aligns with the teaching assignment.

Qualifications

  • Proper valid teaching license as required by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) and the district.
  • Mississippi Teaching License with a 221 Endorsement for Special Education - Mild/Moderate Disability.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.

Responsibilities

  • Meet and instruct assigned classes at designated times and locations.
  • Plan a program of study tailored to the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, appropriate for student maturity and interests.
  • Prepare for classes and provide written evidence of preparation upon request.
  • Encourage students to maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals, establishing clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media, considering student needs and physical limitations of the location.
  • Implement the district’s philosophy of education and instructional goals through instruction and action.
  • Assess student accomplishments regularly and provide progress reports as required.
  • Diagnose learning disabilities and seek assistance from district specialists as required by policy and law.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Perform additional tasks and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.

Reporting Structure

Reports to the Site Principal or designee. Supervises staff members designated by the site principal.

Job Goal

To help students learn subject matter and skills that contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible individuals.

Terms of Employment

Salary and work year to be established by the Board. Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy and MDE guidelines. This position is subject to all applicable policies, resolutions, and regulations of the Hancock County School District and laws of the state of Mississippi.
