About the role

Bridge View School is a K-12 specialized educational school that serves students with severe-profound, low incident developmental disabilities and autism. The role involves supporting students with functional academics, behavior management, lifting, transferring, and daily care assistance.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in preparing instructional plans and lessons for students.
  • Assist in the day-to-day operation of the school program by preparing behavior modification charts, point charts, bonus coupons, and homework sheets; monitoring student attendance, and collecting data or other related activities.
  • Work directly with individual students and groups in daily activities and assignments, providing direction and assistance.
  • Monitor and manage student behavior by providing appropriate activities, attention, and directions, pacing and cues, feedback and consequences for behaviors.
  • Relate to students in a patient, supportive, and warm manner; intervene with students in crisis in a calm and empathic manner.
  • Participate in school related activities outside the classroom such as home visits with the teacher, family night, or field trips.
  • Work cooperatively with staff, other professionals, and parents.
  • Attend team and school staff meetings.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • One of the following:
  • - Two years of study at an institution of higher education (60 semester or 90 quarter credits), OR
  • - An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, OR
  • - Passing score on a state-approved test.
  • Basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics.
  • Experience working with children in an educational setting.
  • Ability to relate to students with warmth, friendliness, and understanding.
  • Ability to develop good relationships with students and staff.
  • Ability to be sensitive to the needs of others.
  • Lifting may be required for some positions.
  • Must be on time to the job every day.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team with a classroom teacher, support staff, and other paraprofessional employees.
  • Some ability to perform basic signing with hearing impaired children may be required for certain positions.
