Interim part-time (.2 FTE) position at Shadow Mountain High School, starting immediately.

About the role

The Teacher – High School supports the instructional process by developing student success in academics and skills, delivering lesson plans within established curriculum guidelines, collaborating with staff and administrators, and communicating with parents or guardians about student progress.

Responsibilities

  • Administer subject-specific assessments and tests to evaluate student competencies.
  • Advise parents and guardians on student progress, expectations, achievements, and methods for improvement.
  • Assess student progress and provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
  • Collaborate with instructional staff, school personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and achieve classroom objectives.
  • Counsel students or refer them to appropriate personnel to address performance, health, or personal issues.
  • Demonstrate pedagogical approaches that engage learners and address individual student requirements.
  • Differentiate classroom instruction to provide individualized learning within established lesson plans.
  • Direct student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, or student workers to address individual student needs.
  • Instruct students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
  • Manage student behavior to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment.
  • Monitor students in classrooms, on campus, and during field trips to maintain safety and a positive learning environment.
  • Participate in district, staff, and departmental meetings to convey and gather required information.
  • Participate in PLC teams to review data and instructional practices.
  • Prepare written materials (e.g., grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
  • Report health and safety issues to administrators and appropriate agencies to maintain student safety and comply with regulations.
  • Respond to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns or direct them to appropriate personnel.
  • Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, and administrators to provide information or direction.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area.
  • Arizona Teaching Certificate with appropriate core content area certification.
  • SEI Endorsement required.
  • Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
  • Criminal background clearance.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Ability to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks, with periodic skill upgrades required.
  • Proficiency in applying assessment instruments, operating standard office equipment, and using pertinent software applications.
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instructional techniques, age-appropriate activities, lesson plan requirements, child development stages, and behavioral management strategies.
  • Ability to schedule activities, meetings, or events; gather, collate, and classify data; and use job-related equipment.
  • Flexibility to work with diverse individuals and groups, adapt to changing priorities, and work flexible hours.
  • Problem-solving skills to analyze issues and create action plans, including independent interpretation of guidelines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships, maintain confidentiality, exhibit tact and patience, meet deadlines, and work as part of a team.

Work Environment

  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and fine finger dexterity required.
  • Job requires 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing.
  • Performed under some temperature extremes and conditions with exposure to risk of injury or illness.
