About the role

The Department of Women’s & Gender Studies (WGS) is a dynamic interdisciplinary field preparing students to be future leaders, scholars, and social justice activists. We are dedicated to studying the social production of gender and women’s experiences in relation to formations of sexuality, race, class, nationality, ability, ageism, and other categories of difference.

We are seeking candidates for our part-time lecturer pool to teach the following courses:

  • Intro to Gender & Sexuality
  • Intro to Disability Studies
  • Introduction to Women’s Studies
  • Intro to the Women’s Movement in Contemporary Society
  • Asian American Women
  • Mother, Woman & Person
  • Women of the Middle East
  • Gender & Health
  • Gender, Race & Class
  • Women of Color
  • Women and Work
  • Violence Against Women
  • Feminism & the Spirit
  • Women in Art
  • Women’s Global Issues
  • Intro to Queer & Trans Studies
  • LGBTQ Histories

Duties include instruction, class preparation, grading, and office hours. Other duties may be assigned based on departmental needs. Course assignments, including dates, time, and modality, are made by the Department Chair under the direction of the College Dean. Part-time lecturers are instructional faculty with conditional appointments based on enrollment and budget. Appointments are typically for one semester, but occasionally academic year initial appointments are made. Appointments may be renewed based on department needs, funding, and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Teach assigned courses in Women’s & Gender Studies
  • Prepare course materials and syllabi
  • Grade assignments and exams
  • Hold regular office hours for student support
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the department

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Women’s & Gender Studies or a related field, or
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree with successful advancement to candidacy in a Doctoral program in a related field

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with at least five years of relevant college teaching experience (preferred)
  • Teaching experience in both in-person and online courses in higher education (preferred)
  • Doctoral degree in a related discipline (preferred)
  • Ability to teach classes with 50 students (preferred)
  • Experience teaching intersectional feminism (preferred)
  • Interdisciplinary approach to curriculum (preferred)

Pay

Initial rank and salary are based on professional experience and educational background. As of July 2024, the classification salary ranges for the respective ranks are:

  • Lecturer A: $5,507 - $6,677 per 15 weighted teaching units (WTUs)
  • Lecturer B: $6,221 - $13,224 per 15 WTUs
  • Lecturer C: $6,825 - $14,523 per 15 WTUs
  • Lecturer D: $8,593 - $15,211 per 15 WTUs

Compensation is pro-rated based on assigned units. For example, a Lecturer A assigned 3 units at the minimum salary would earn $1,101.40 per payment over six payments, totaling $6,608.40 for the semester.
