2026-27 AY Assistant Professor Tenure Track Position – Special Education & Counseling (2)

Cal State LA’s Special Education & Counseling Department in the College of Education invites applications for two full-time, academic-year Assistant Professor tenure-track positions in the School-Based Family Counseling Program, with appointment beginning Spring 2027 or Fall 2027.

Minimum Qualifications

• Doctorate in Counseling, Psychology, Education, or closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
• Demonstrated ability and/or experience in working in a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural environment, including public schools.
• Demonstrated potential or record of effective teaching using a variety of methodologies.
• Demonstrated ability in providing supervision of counselors in clinical settings such as public schools or agencies.
• Proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
• Evidence of publications in scholarly journals or planned agenda for research, scholarship, or creative activities.

Preferred Qualifications

• Advanced training and experience in conjoint family therapy and licensure as a Licensed Psychologist, LMFT, LCSW, and/or LPCC.
• Professional identity as a family counselor, affiliation with professional organization in marriage family therapy.
• Valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential in School Counseling and Advanced Authorization in Child Welfare and Attendance.
• Demonstrated ability in providing supervision of first-year graduate students in conjoint family therapy in a community clinic setting.
• Ability to teach in three or more of the following areas: Family Counseling Laboratory, Basic Counseling & Interviewing Skills, Individual Counseling Strategies, Group Counseling, Multicultural Counseling, Leadership in Pupil Personnel Services, Family Counseling with Children, Human Sexuality, Human Development.
• Willingness to teach 18 Saturday mornings per academic year (the clinic provides training to students and services to families on Saturdays).

Responsibilities

• Teaching introductory and advanced courses in Counseling, including providing supervision of first-year graduate students in conjoint family therapy in a community clinic setting.
• Supervising practicum/fieldwork and providing student advisement.
• Advising students, participating in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, and collaborating with colleagues.

About the Department

The Department of Special Education and Counseling at California State University, Los Angeles offers programs leading to undergraduate and graduate degrees, credentials, and certificates. Preparation is offered for teachers, counselors, school psychologists, and specialists in special education, counseling, rehabilitation, and related services. A doctoral program in Special Education is offered jointly with UCLA.

The School-Based Family Counseling Program prepares students with clinical skills as independent marriage and family therapists and competencies as effective school counselors. Students learn to work with adults, families, and children from systems-oriented perspectives in various environments. Graduates are equipped to pursue credentials such as the Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credential, Advanced Authorization in Child Welfare and Attendance (CWA), Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) license, and Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) license.

The program provides opportunities for students to work in Cal State LA’s School-Based Family Counseling Clinic, serving families from the community under the supervision of licensed faculty members.

Pay

Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, with an anticipated hiring range of $91,000 - $97,224 annually.
