Cal State LA’s Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services invites applications for three full-time, academic-year Assistant Professor tenure-track positions in Social Work, with appointments beginning Spring 2027, Summer 2027, or Fall 2027.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Earned Ph.D. or Doctorate in Social Work or other closely related field (e.g., EdD) from an accredited institution at the time of appointment; doctoral candidates with ABD status may be considered if the doctorate is completed by the start date.
  • Earned Master of Social Work degree (MSW) from a CSWE-accredited program.
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience with courses in a CSWE-accredited social work program.
  • Evidence of research and scholarly activity, including publications in scholarly refereed journals, potential for funded research projects, and presentations at scholarly meetings.
  • A strong commitment to working with diverse students, faculty, and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of successful teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels in behavioral health (mental health and/or substance use), social work direct practice with children, youth, and their caregivers and family members, and/or related macro policy and macro social work practice.
  • Evidence of experience mentoring students on master’s thesis/projects.
  • Current clinical licensure in Social Work (LCSW).

Responsibilities

  • Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the School of Social Work.
  • Advising students and maintaining regular office hours.
  • Engaging in research, scholarship, and/or creative activity, including seeking external funding.
  • Participating in campus and system-wide committees, traditional academic functions, and service to the university, profession, and community.
  • Working collaboratively and productively with colleagues in a multicultural, urban campus environment.

About the School of Social Work

The School of Social Work educates urban generalist social workers in diverse settings who are committed to social and economic justice to facilitate change and growth at all levels of practice. The program is accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).

  • Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BASW): A two-year upper-division program offering courses during the day and evening.
  • Master of Social Work (MSW): An Advanced Generalist practice program with options for a 1-year Advanced Standing Program (ASP), a 2-year full-time program, and a 3-year program with evening and Saturday courses. All programs are cohort-based.
  • Field Education: Integral to social work education, with BASW students completing 14-hour weekly internships in their senior year, and MSW students completing 16–24-hour weekly internships depending on their program track.

The School serves a diverse student population, including many first-generation college students, and is part of one of the most ethnically diverse universities in the country. Students have opportunities to collaborate with faculty on research through thesis or research projects.

Pay

Initial salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience, with an anticipated hiring range of $86,886 – $96,540 annually.
