About the role
This position requires the ability to work with children of various ages and with a variety of disabilities (preschool to 12th grade). The person in this position is considered an itinerant employee, traveling to different school sites within the district.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate students' hearing and determine educational impact and make recommendations for accommodations and assistive technology when indicated to best meet the needs of the student.
- Maintain hearing aids, cochlear implants, ear-level and sound-field FM/DM systems, and additional equipment related to auditory access for students.
- Communicate with outside service providers regarding student progress, equipment functioning, etc.
- Perform evaluation of hearing, hearing aids, cochlear implants and FM/DM systems as necessary.
- Participate in student evaluation/re-evaluation/IEP process as appropriate, including Child Find screenings.
- Provide informational and consultative services relative to the management of hearing disabilities and needs to the student, education team, family, related medical agencies, and community agencies.
- Document third party billing activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Doctorate in Audiology (Au.D.) Or equivalent in Audiology
- Current Washington ESA Audiologist certification
- Experience with interventions for a variety of students with hearing needs and varying disabilities
Skills
- Ability to use sign language (ASL and/or SEE) to communicate with students who rely more on visual language than auditory language
- Experience working with children and families who are culturally, linguistically, and racially diverse
