Location: Shadow Mountain HS – 9.5-month, non-interim position (8/24/2026 – 5/28/2027), 8 hours per day. Grade 14, $15.94 per hour.
About the role
The Attendance Clerk II directs the daily activities of the attendance office, ensures accurate attendance accounting within the District, and conveys attendance-related information to appropriate parties. This position reports to the Building Administrator.
Responsibilities
- Communicates with parents and/or guardians regarding student absences, discipline/behavior matters, appointments, and other attendance-related issues to meet district administrative requirements and mandated guidelines.
- Inputs data into commercial and customized databases (e.g., attendance and enrollment, Gold Card progressive discipline, Dean’s calendar) to ensure accuracy.
- Maintains the automated student attendance system to ensure accurate tracking and documentation of student attendance and enrollment.
- Oversees student attendance-related matters (e.g., early dismissals, late arrivals) and provides information and directions within established guidelines.
- Prepares reports and written materials (e.g., state attendance reports, in-school suspensions, after-school detention reports, tutoring lists, substitute attendance) to convey information about school/district activities and procedures.
- Researches discrepancies in attendance information and documentation to ensure accuracy.
- Responds to questions from staff, parents, other schools, and students to provide information and directions as required.
- Supervises assigned personnel (e.g., Attendance Clerk I, student aides) to enhance staff productivity and ensure department outcomes are achieved.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Job-related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is desired.
- Pre-employment proficiency tests in mathematics, filing, spelling, and typing.
- Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (www.azdps.gov/services/public/fingerprint).
Skills
- Operating standard office equipment and pertinent software applications.
- Preparing and maintaining accurate records; analyzing data; providing customer service.
- Performing basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and ratios.
- Reading manuals, writing documents in prescribed formats, and presenting information to others.
- Understanding codes, regulations, and laws related to student attendance; business telephone etiquette; record-keeping and retention practices.
- Scheduling activities/meetings; gathering, collating, and classifying data; using basic job-related equipment.
- Working with diverse individuals; meeting deadlines and schedules; setting priorities with minimal supervision.
- Maintaining confidentiality; demonstrating accuracy and attention to detail.
- Reading, writing, and communicating clearly in English.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Work Environment
- Physical demands include some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and significant fine finger dexterity.
- Typical work distribution: 85% sitting, 10% walking, 5% standing.
- Generally hazard-free environment.
Pay
$15.94 per hour.
Schedule
8 hours per day, 9.5 months (8/24/2026 – 5/28/2027).
