2026-27 Art Teacher .2 - Shea Middle School

Location: Shea Middle School – 0.2 FTE, non-interim position. Start date: August 25, 2026.

About the Role

The middle-school art teacher supports the instructional process by developing student success in visual-arts skills, delivering lesson plans within the established curriculum, collaborating with staff and families, and supervising students in classrooms and other assigned areas.

Responsibilities

• Administer subject-specific assessments to gauge student competencies.
• Advise parents and guardians on student progress, expectations, and home-support strategies.
• Counsel students to improve performance, health, problem-solving, and personal issues.
• Assess and document student progress toward objectives; provide feedback to students, parents, and administration.
• Collaborate with instructional staff, district personnel, parents, and community resources to improve student outcomes and meet school-improvement goals.
• Demonstrate engaging pedagogical approaches that address individual student needs.
• Differentiate classroom work to provide individualized instruction within established lesson plans.
• Direct student teachers, instructional assistants, volunteers, and student workers to meet classroom needs.
• Instruct students in visual arts to improve academic success.
• Manage student behavior to ensure a safe and optimal learning environment.
• Monitor students in classrooms, on field trips, at dances, and at athletic events to maintain safety.
• Participate in district, staff, departmental, and PLC meetings to review data and instructional practices.
• Prepare written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records) to document progress and meet mandated requirements.
• Report health and safety issues (fights, suspected abuse, substance abuse, inappropriate behaviors) to administrators and appropriate agencies.
• Respond to inquiries from teachers, parents, and administrators to resolve issues and provide information.
• Respond to emergency situations to address immediate safety concerns.
• Perform other related duties as assigned to support the efficient functioning of the work unit.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a job-related area.
• Arizona Teaching Certificate with appropriate core-content certification.
• SEI Endorsement.
• Valid Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
• Criminal background clearance.

• Skills: Administering assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment and pertinent software; maintaining accurate records; applying curriculum and instructional techniques.

Work Environment

The role requires occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity. The job involves approximately 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing, with exposure to temperature extremes and some risk of injury or illness.
