Job Summary

The Elementary Teacher (Grades 3–5) supports student achievement by delivering rigorous, standards-aligned instruction that promotes critical thinking, academic growth, and positive social development. This position emphasizes differentiated instruction, data-informed decision-making, and student accountability while fostering a safe, structured, and engaging learning environment. The teacher collaborates with families, colleagues, and administrators to monitor progress, set goals, and support student success. The teacher reports to the Principal and Assistant Principal.

Requisite Education And Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university
  • Valid Virginia Department of Education license with an endorsement in Elementary Education, or eligibility to obtain one
  • Experience with instructional technology or willingness to participate in required technology training
  • Demonstrated ability to meet the needs of a diverse student population
  • Ability to build positive, effective relationships with students, families, and school staff
  • Proficiency in the use of instructional technology and digital tools to support instruction, assessment, and communication

Essential Job Responsibilities And Duties

  • Plans and delivers rigorous, standards-based instruction aligned to division-approved curriculum
  • Differentiates instruction to meet the academic needs of individual students and student subgroups
  • Uses formative and summative assessment data to monitor progress and inform instructional decisions
  • Establishes clear expectations for student behavior, responsibility, and academic engagement
  • Maintains a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom environment that supports student learning
  • Collaborates with colleagues, specialists, and administrators to support instructional improvement and student success
  • Communicates regularly with parents/guardians regarding student progress, expectations, and academic goals
  • Maintains accurate and timely student records in accordance with School Board policies and legal requirements
  • Supervises students in a variety of school settings to ensure safety and positive behavior
  • Participates in professional learning activities and demonstrates a commitment to continuous improvement
  • Complies with all federal and state laws, School Board policies, and administrative regulations
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal to support the effective operation of the school

Physical Requirements

  • Operates in a professional school environment that includes classrooms, gymnasiums, cafeterias, auditoriums, and outdoor learning or recreational areas
  • Noise levels may range from low to moderate
  • Frequent walking, standing, and movement throughout the school day
  • Occasional climbing, kneeling, or crouching may be required
  • Periods of sitting are common while preparing lessons, grading assignments, or completing administrative tasks
  • Lifting or moving instructional materials, classroom supplies, or equipment weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and occasionally up to 25 pounds or more
  • Regular use of computers, interactive whiteboards, projectors, printers, and other instructional technologies is required to support teaching and learning
  • Clear verbal communication, active listening, and visual attentiveness are essential for delivering instruction and ensuring student safety
  • The role involves daily interaction with students and regular collaboration with colleagues, administrators, and families
  • Occasional travel between school sites or participation in supervised field trips may also be required
  • Teachers must be able to manage multiple responsibilities and adapt to the demands of a dynamic, fast-paced educational environment
