Work Location: Crownpoint High • 7.5 hours/day • 194-day contract

Salary range: $60,583 – $84,868

About the role

Deliver the District’s educational program by teaching students academic, social, and motor skills in accordance with State and District standards, ensuring equal educational opportunities for all students.

Responsibilities

• Prepare course objectives and outline for course of study following State and District curriculum guidelines.
• Lecture, demonstrate, and use audio-visual teaching aids to present subject matter to students.
• Operate and care for equipment used in the classroom for instructional and activity purposes, including audio-visual and office machines.
• Prepare, administer, and correct tests; record results; assign lessons; correct papers; and hear oral presentations.
• Teach rules of conduct; maintain order in the classroom and on the playground.
• Maintain a classroom environment conducive to age-appropriate learning.
• Counsel pupils when adjustment and academic problems arise; discuss pupils’ academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents.
• Keep attendance and grade records as required by the District.
• Coordinate class field trips.
• Participate in faculty and professional meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops.
• Perform all teaching competencies as required by the District and the State.
• Participate in and/or share load in extra-curricular student and school activities.

Qualifications

Any combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical path includes:

• Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree including 32 credit hours of vocational-welding training related to the occupational area, or
  • Associate’s degree plus 2 years of work experience related to the occupational area, or
  • Certificate plus 3 years of work experience related to the occupational area, or
  • High School Diploma/GED plus 5 years of work experience related to the occupational area.
• Licensure: Possession of or ability to obtain a Vocational-Welding teacher’s license from the New Mexico Public Education Department. Candidates meeting one of the education criteria above will be issued a secondary vocational-technical license at a Level 1P for 3 years. Within those 3 years, candidates must:
  • Complete a minimum of 15 semester hours in a Secondary Vocational-Welding Education Program, including a supervised classroom internship/student teaching experience, or
  • Develop a Professional Development Plan (PDP) approved by the PED, in lieu of the 15 semester hours, and
  • Demonstrate competencies for vocational welding teachers within 3 years of employment.

• On-site attendance is mandatory.

• Speak and hear; communicate effectively in English (American Sign Language or Braille may also be acceptable).
• Reach with hands and arms; use hands and fingers to handle objects and operate tools, computers, and controls.
• Constantly stand/walk, bend neck and back, use hands for repetitive grasping and pushing/pulling.
• Frequently use hands for fine manipulation, squat, kneel, knee stand, and push/pull.
• Occasionally sit, climb stairs/ladders, lift and reach overhead, crawl, and lift/carry.
• Often lift/carry up to 20 pounds; frequently lift/carry up to 50 pounds.
• Occasionally push/pull a maximum weight of 10 pounds.

Environmental Demands

• Exposure to a variety of childhood and adult diseases and illnesses.
• Occasional exposure to a variety of weather conditions.
• Exposure to heated/air-conditioned and ventilated facilities.
• Exposure to a building where chemical substances are used for cleaning, instruction, and equipment operation.
• Work in a usually moderately quiet environment that can be noisy at times.
• Work near video displays.
• Required to properly wear any personal protection equipment supplied by the District.
