About the Role

The Secondary Math Teacher will provide guidance and instructional experiences that are academically and developmentally appropriate for students. The teacher is accountable to the New Mexico Teacher Competencies and Domains, delivering State and District curriculum while ensuring equal educational opportunities for all students.

Responsibilities

• Planning and Preparation:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of content and design coherent instruction
  • Set instructional outcomes and design student assessments
  • Demonstrate knowledge of resources and students
• Creating an Environment for Learning:
  • Establish a culture of respect, rapport, and learning
  • Organize physical space and manage classroom procedures
  • Manage student behavior effectively
• Teaching for Learning:
  • Communicate with students appropriately for their culture and developmental level
  • Use questioning and discussion techniques to support classroom discourse
  • Engage students in learning and demonstrate flexibility in instruction
• Assessment and Professionalism:
  • Assess student progress and reflect on teaching practices
  • Communicate with families and participate in professional communities
  • Grow professionally and adhere to board policies and administrative regulations
• Additional Duties:
  • Maintain accurate records of grades and attendance
  • Report student progress to parents in a timely manner
  • Attend faculty meetings, conferences, and training workshops
  • Prepare for substitutes and supervise educational assistants or student teachers
  • Participate in school teams, committees, and district initiatives
  • Sponsor extracurricular activities and be available to stakeholders outside school hours
  • Report suspected child abuse or neglect and complete required training (e.g., Safe Schools)
  • Supervise students on field trips and act as a positive role model
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree
• Valid New Mexico teaching license with required endorsements
• Ability to meet physical demands, including sitting, standing, lifting (up to 50 pounds), and moving about the school
• Proficiency or willingness to learn multimedia and current technology
• On-site attendance is mandatory; flexibility and self-motivation are required

Work Environment

Work is performed in a school setting with varying noise levels, temperatures, and air quality. Interruptions are routine, and after-hours work may be required. Applicants must upload official transcripts or foreign transcript evaluations for consideration.

Pay

Salary range: $60,583.00 – $84,868.00 (194-day contract). All GMCS schools are eligible for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program (PSLF).

Schedule

7.5 hours per day.
