About the Role

The Secondary teacher will provide guidance and instructional experiences that are academically and developmentally appropriate for students. The teacher is held accountable to the New Mexico Teacher Competencies and Domains, delivers State and District curriculum, and ensures equal educational opportunities for all students.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and Preparation:
    • Demonstrates knowledge of content
    • Designs coherent instruction and sets instructional outcomes
    • Demonstrates knowledge of resources and students
    • Designs student assessments
  • Creating an Environment for Learning:
    • Creates an environment of respect and rapport
    • Organizes physical space within the learning environment
    • Establishes a culture for learning
    • Manages classroom procedures and student behavior
  • Teaching for Learning:
    • Communicates with students in a culturally and developmentally appropriate manner
    • Uses questioning and discussion techniques to support classroom discourse
    • Engages students in learning
    • Demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness in assessment and instruction
  • Professionalism:
    • Communicates with families
    • Participates in a professional community
    • Reflects on teaching and demonstrates professionalism
    • Grows and develops professionally
    • Follows board policies and administrative rules and regulations
  • Additional Duties:
    • Manages time appropriately and maintains accurate records of grades and attendance
    • Reports progress to parents in a timely manner
    • Attends faculty meetings, conferences, and training workshops
    • Completes assigned duties (hall, bus, etc.) and prepares for substitutes
    • Actively participates in school teams/committees and supports district initiatives
    • Demonstrates public relations and conflict resolution skills
    • Uses diagnostic data to improve instructional programs
    • Is available to parents, students, administration, and peers outside the school day
    • Attends and sponsors extracurricular activities
    • Reports suspected child abuse and neglect
    • Completes Safe Schools training as directed
    • Supervises students on field trips and acts as a role model
    • Supervises educational assistants, practicum students, student teachers, and volunteers
    • Follows district and school procedures
    • Accepts other responsibilities as deemed necessary by the principal

Requirements

  • A BA degree and a valid New Mexico teaching license with required endorsements
  • Ability to perform physical tasks including:
    • Sitting, standing, lifting (up to 50 pounds), moving about the room or school
    • Reaching, squatting, kneeling, prolonged typing
    • Moving light furniture
  • Ability to operate multimedia equipment and current technology
  • Must be able to work in varying noise levels, temperatures, and air quality conditions
  • Must handle interruptions, be self-motivated, and complete assignments without direct supervision
  • After-hours work may be required

Pay

Minimum Salary: $60,583.00
Maximum Salary: $84,868.00

Schedule

7.5 hours per day
Contract Length: 194 days
