Work Hours: 7.5 hours/day | Contract Length: 194 days | Salary Range: $27,045 – $33,728

About the Role

Assist the teacher or assigned professional in daily classroom activities, including supporting students with lesson and homework assignments, maintaining classroom discipline, and performing clerical duties.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the classroom teacher in delivering course objectives and following state and District Curriculum guidelines.
  • Help implement lesson plans, grade assignments, and maintain records.
  • Manage files and records, including attendance and grades, ensuring confidentiality.
  • Support students individually or in groups to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Operate and maintain classroom equipment, including audio-visual and office machines.
  • Assist in teaching rules of conduct and maintaining classroom and playground order.
  • Help create a classroom environment conducive to age-appropriate learning.
  • Coordinate class field trips.
  • Guide independent study, enrichment, or remedial work as directed by the teacher.
  • Under supervision, may counsel pupils on academic or behavioral issues and communicate with parents.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalency (required).
  • Level III Educational Assistant license from the New Mexico Public Education Department (NMPED).
  • One year of related teaching assistance experience (desirable).

Qualifications

Knowledge of:

  • Basic principles of early childhood development, including special education.
  • Classroom management and modern teaching practices.
  • Office and classroom equipment, including computers.
  • Student growth, development, and learning strategies.
  • Clerical procedures, filing, and record-keeping.
  • Cultural diversities of the local area, including Native American traditions.

Ability To:

  • Perform general clerical work and operate standard office machines.
  • Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Communicate clearly, both orally and in writing.
  • Engage students to enhance learning and understanding.
  • Apply principles of student growth and development.
  • Motivate and influence children while promoting positive behavior.
  • Create a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  • Establish cooperative working relationships.
  • Maintain physical and mental capacity for assigned duties.
  • Respect and understand cultural diversities and traditions.

Working Conditions

  • On-site attendance is mandatory.
  • Classroom and field environment; work schedule aligns with teachers or as established by supervisor.
  • Essential functions may require moderate to heavy lifting, standing, and walking for long periods.
  • Work involves computers and classroom equipment.
