About the role

The Isidore Newman School seeks a talented and dynamic Lower School co-teacher for the 2026-2027 academic year. The role involves planning and executing lessons, facilitating the educational and social development of students, creating a respectful and conducive learning environment, collaborating with colleagues, assessing students, and communicating with parents.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and execute lessons that meet the differentiated needs of our students including whole group, small group, and individual instruction, and fulfill the skills and content of the grade level
  • Demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy
  • Create an environment of respect and rapport that is safe and conducive to learning
  • Use instructional time effectively
  • Collaborate positively with the grade level colleagues as well as other lower school faculty around teaching and learning and have a growth mindset
  • Achieve student growth, development, and learning through assessment and use of assessment data
  • Communicate openly and effectively with parents including but not limited to Parents Nights, Parent Teacher Conferences, Curriculum Conversations
  • Participate in field trips and special traditions and activities of the grade level
  • Maintain student records, display student work, and maintain a neat and organized environment for learning
  • Model appropriate presence daily and ensure that students adhere to Lower School behavioral expectations
  • Complete Lower School duties and responsibilities as assigned

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in elementary education or a related field
  • 3+ years of experience as an elementary grade educator
  • Knowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in instruction and curriculum design at the elementary level
  • Professional orientation toward collaboration and innovation
  • A reflective practitioner, committed to a continuous process of self-improvement and lifelong learning
  • Enthusiasm for teaching children
  • Cultural competency demonstrating respect for diversity of identities and experiences and an orientation toward equity and inclusion
  • A positive attitude, self-confidence, and effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to engage, motivate, and develop student learning
  • Must meet and maintain all federal, state, and local requirements to work in an educational childcare setting
