About the role
The Early Elementary Lower School Teacher at Isidore Newman School is responsible for planning and executing lessons that meet the differentiated needs of students, facilitating their educational and social development, creating a respectful and conducive learning environment, collaborating with colleagues, assessing students, communicating with parents, participating in field trips and activities, maintaining student records, and modeling appropriate behavior.
Responsibilities
- Plan and execute lessons that meet the differentiated needs of our students including whole group, small group, and individual instruction, and fulfill the skills and content of the grade level
- Demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy
- Create an environment of respect and rapport that is safe and conducive to learning
- Use instructional time effectively
- Collaborate positively with the grade level colleagues as well as other lower school faculty around teaching and learning and have a growth mindset
- Achieve student growth, development, and learning through a variety of assessments, both formal and informal
- Communicate openly and effectively with parents including but not limited to Parents Nights, Parent Teacher Conferences, Curriculum Conversations
- Participate in field trips and special traditions and activities of the grade level
- Maintain student records, display student work, and maintain a neat and organized environment for learning
- Model appropriate presence daily and ensure that students adhere to Lower School behavioral expectations
- Complete Lower School duties and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree or higher in elementary education or a related field
- 4+ years of experience as an elementary grade educator
- Knowledge of varied pedagogy and trends in instruction and curriculum design at the early childhood/primary level
- Cultural competency demonstrating respect for diversity of identities and experiences and an orientation toward equity and inclusion
- Professional orientation toward collaboration and innovation
- A reflective practitioner committed to a continuous process of self-improvement and lifelong learning
- Enthusiasm for teaching children
- A positive sense of humor, self-confidence, and effective oral and written communication skills
Qualifications
- Must meet and maintain any and all federal, state, and local requirements to work in an educational childcare setting.
