2026-2027 CTE Teacher Electrical Instructor

Salary range: $58,414–$108,868 (commensurate with experience). 11-month (220-day) exempt contract.

About the Role

Under the direction of the school principal, plan and provide instruction and skills training for students in installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of residential, commercial, and industrial electrical systems. Create an atmosphere conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of every student. Monitor and evaluate student outcomes, including skills competencies prescribed by the Virginia Department of Education. Communicate and interact with students, parents, staff, and the community. Develop, select, and modify instructional plans and materials to meet the needs of all students.

• Exhibit evidence of effective lesson plans and utilize varied teaching techniques and learning activities.
• Communicate lesson objectives and their importance to students.
• Adjust presentation of subject content to students’ needs and interests.
• Supervise students in school-related settings, including service projects and SkillsUSA Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO).
• Create a safe laboratory environment following OSHA standards for safe practices.
• Comply with federal, state, and local safety legal requirements, including VOSHA and EPA.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Administration.

Requirements

• Must hold or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with an endorsement in the appropriate subject area.
• Knowledge of current teaching methods, educational pedagogy, and differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
• Demonstrated ability in decision-making, problem analysis, conflict resolution, interpersonal relationships, and planning.
• Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students.
• Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
• Ability to organize and coordinate work.
• Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
• Ability to engage in self-evaluation regarding performance and professional growth.
• Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.
• Five years of experience in the field is preferred.
• Must possess required certification or license and skill in electrical systems (Journeyman or Master’s).
• Holds or is eligible for a VDOE license with a teaching endorsement at the appropriate level.

Working Conditions

• Duties are normally performed in a school/classroom environment; occasional field trips away from school.
• Moderate noise level.
• Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods; exhibit manual dexterity; see and read a computer screen and printed material; hear and understand speech at normal levels; speak in audible tones; lift up to 25 pounds; bend, stoop, climb stairs, and reach overhead.
