2026-2027 After School Music Instructor

About the role

Burke's is an independent K-8 gender-inclusive all-girls' school located in San Francisco. The school offers a comprehensive curriculum that includes strong academic and co-curricular programs, emphasizing project-based learning and personal growth in a diverse and inclusive environment.

Primary Responsibilities

• Reliably teach individual piano, guitar, drums, and/or voice lessons to students on a weekly basis (Monday to Friday, 3:00-6:00pm) on dates and times agreed upon in advance
• Check in regularly with parents concerning student progress and any needs or recommendations you have for the child at home
• Offer recitals as planned by the After School Music Program manager
• Communicate effectively with the After School Music Program manager and the After School staff
• Timely and supportive communication with students, parents, and caregivers to foster a strong partnership with families

Requirements

• Experience teaching music to Grades K-8 (2+ Years preferred)
• Demonstrated confidence in:
  • Differentiation of instruction
  • Cultural competency
• Understanding of, commitment and appreciation for:
  • Equitable and anti-racist teaching practices
  • The social-emotional needs of girls
• Personal Qualities:
  • Passion for teaching music and a desire to be a part of a gender-inclusive girls' school

Qualifications & Skills

Benefits

Compensation: $75 an hour for this position.
