Qualifications

Teacher assistants/paraprofessionals must have AT LEAST one of the following three qualifications:

  • Completed at least 2 years of study (48 semester hours) at an institution of higher learning;
  • Obtained an associate's (or higher) degree;
  • Passed the ACT Work Keys Test at Silver Level or higher.

Responsibilities

Reports To Classroom teacher and School Principal

Job Goal: To help implement students' IEP and assist students with the appropriate curriculum activities to increase student achievement in the area of specific goals.

  • Participates in daily and long range lesson and classroom activity planning.
  • Conducts learning exercises with small groups of students.
  • Guides students in appropriate intellectual and social activities.
  • Alerts the teacher to special needs of individual students.
  • Provides proper supervision to students as necessary.
  • Fosters appropriate behavior in students.
  • Maintains a safe, neat and orderly environment.
  • Collections and displays suitable material for educational displays.
  • Aids the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material and skills based on a sympathetic understanding of the individual needs of students, their interest, and abilities.
  • Operates and cares for equipment used in the school and classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Aids with large group work such as drill work, reading aloud, and story telling.
  • Aids students in the library and / or computer lab setting.
  • Collects and records collection of money.
  • Aids students with proper hygiene as needed.
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of licensed teachers.
  • Participates in professional development activities as required by the supervisor.
  • Promotes a positive image of the school, its staff, and community.
  • Models good reading, writing, and speaking skills.
  • Attends parent conferences as needed.
  • Performs other such tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the supervisor may from time to time assign.
  • Helps implement student IEP's.

Terms Of Employment: 187 days

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Non-certified Personnel.
