Elementary Teacher's Assistant 2026-2027
About the role
The Elementary Teacher's Assistant will support the classroom environment and students in a Montessori setting.
Responsibilities
- Assist with maintaining a classroom true to the Montessori philosophy, fostering a respectful and kind community
- Prepare and maintain a Montessori environment with developmentally appropriate materials and activities
- Instruct students in specific areas or lessons as directed by the lead teacher
- Provide instruction and support to students throughout the day
- Maintain attendance and other written or electronic records
- Supervise students during lunch, recess, and nap periods; support transitions between activities
- Aid in daily cleaning routines and prepare/ maintain materials for student work
- Observe student behaviors and intervene as necessary, communicating progress or concerns to the teacher and other faculty
- Support drop-off and pick-up procedures at the start and end of each school day
- Attend and participate in meetings 1-on-1 or within groups for the position, classroom, or level
- Support classroom events and trips, including outings, class gatherings, performances, and more
- Acquire professional training and development in the educational field through coaching sessions, training workshops, and other related learning activities
- Participate in a week-long overnight camping trip to assist with student supervision at the end of the school year
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or requested
Qualifications
- Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma or equivalent required
- Experience working with children ages 4 to 9
- Basic understanding of a child's cognitive, physical, social, and emotional development
- Reliable, flexible, and able to provide a high level of support to colleagues and students
- Demonstrated commitment to cultural competency and supporting a diverse student population
- Effective communicator, verbal and written, with children and adults
Additional Information
This is a Full-Time, 10-month position. Salary is commensurate with experience and based on the KIPP OKC teacher salary scale.
