About the role
This position reports to the Production Manager and is solely accountable for the fulfillment of all assigned duties. It carries delegated authority commensurate with assigned responsibilities.
Responsibilities
- Runs and coordinates all welding areas of production.
- Coordinates departments based on the production schedule and reports quantities and salvage to appropriate Excel sheets and the production meeting group.
- Ensures production stays within defined HPS goal and within 43 hours per week per employee.
- Enforces 5S LEAN housekeeping rules to keep the shop floor clean and organized per company goals.
- Reports and monitors employee efficiency; develops corrective action if operators or equipment are not meeting efficiency goals.
- Ensures each employee operates at maximum efficiency.
- Demonstrates equipment operations or work procedures to new employees or assigns them to experienced workers for training; verifies adherence to work instructions.
- Verifies that all work instructions are in place daily.
- Initiates tickets for the Major/Minor and safety critical program; responsible for retraining employees when infractions occur.
- Confer with the Quality Department on quality issues and takes appropriate corrective action for product already built and current production.
- Confer with management, Human Resources, and/or subordinates to resolve employee issues, complaints, or grievances.
- Completes all employee performance evaluations.
- Initiates discipline documentation with employees per JOST’s Policies.
- Verifies employee attendance and records; coordinates with Human Resources for accurate timekeeping.
- Communicates with the Maintenance Department on equipment downtime issues.
- Directs and ensures area Leads properly tag and place all non-conforming materials in designated areas by the end of the shift.
- Ensures all safety standards and company policies are followed in the area of responsibility.
- Participates effectively in corrective action teams to address root causes in a timely manner.
- Performs any additional duties assigned that are logically and properly inherent to this position.
Requirements
- Strong leadership abilities with the ability to create and maintain a good teamwork environment.
- Minimum of two years of prior work experience in welding with supervision.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Outlook and Excel.
- Capable of using applicable hand tools correctly and safely.
- Ability to enforce company rules and policies.
- Ability to gain knowledge of company products, quality, and safety policies.
- Good interpersonal and excellent communication skills.
- Capable of working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Highly dependable, motivated, and self-driven with excellent attendance.
- Ability to follow, understand, and strictly abide by Work Instructions (WI).
- High level of attention to detail.
- Ability to read and write legibly as defined by company standards.
- Basic math skills as defined by company standards.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Understanding of basic processes.
