About the Role
The Outbound Material Handler ensures all orders are picked, consolidated, packed, and shipped in a timely and accurate manner to maintain smooth outbound operations. This position involves using internal warehouse systems and various warehouse equipment, including Powered Industrial Trucks.
Responsibilities
- Retrieve items from racking accurately and efficiently using handheld scanning devices and ERP system, either on foot or with forklift equipment.
- Sort and consolidate picked items using handheld scanning devices to prepare customer orders for shipment.
- Pack products accurately and securely using the internal SPS system, focusing on delivering an excellent customer experience.
- Operate warehouse equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks, scanners, computers) while adhering to established safety protocols.
- Meet performance standards for efficiency, accuracy, and quality of work.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment by following safety guidelines and reporting hazards.
- Collaborate with team members and leadership to achieve daily, weekly, and monthly departmental goals.
- Adhere to all company and warehouse policies.
- Flex into other positions or departments and take on additional duties as needed to support operations.
Physical Requirements
- Work performed while standing and/or walking, up to 12 hours per day.
- Effective communication using speech, vision, and hearing.
- Regular use of hands for simple grasping and fine manipulations.
- Frequent bending, squatting, crawling, climbing, and reaching.
- Ability to regularly lift, carry, push, or pull up to 75 lbs.
Qualifications
- 1+ years of relevant experience in a distribution environment preferred but not required.
- No degree required; relevant skills, experience, and alignment with core values are prioritized.
Skills
- Ability to operate warehouse equipment (forklifts, order pickers, etc.).
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Adaptability to changing business needs with diplomacy and emotional intelligence.
- Customer service-oriented attitude with a focus on exceeding expectations.
Working Environment
The role involves occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, vehicles, temperature/humidity changes, dust, fumes, and gases. The noise level is typically quiet to moderate, with average employee traffic in the work area.
