About the Role
Demonstrate full proficiency in maintenance and mechanical activities to ensure all equipment operates effectively and efficiently. Perform general maintenance, preventative maintenance, overhauls, modifications, fabrication, welding, and mechanical/electrical troubleshooting and repair with limited supervision. Act as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience.
Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance and repairs (planned, unplanned, emergency) on production, processing, packaging, and utility-related equipment/systems while following all safety procedures.
- Conduct preventative maintenance and routine inspections to assess equipment reliability and performance.
- Read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, electrical schematics, service manuals, and work orders to perform required maintenance.
- Support the installation of new equipment and assist operators with training or troubleshooting to minimize downtime.
- Complete work orders in a timely manner while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Use hand/power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment in performing duties.
- Maintain communication with other departments, management, and employees regarding production efficiency concerns.
- Document all repairs clearly and accurately per standard operating procedures.
- Stay updated on new products, equipment, technology, and techniques.
- Identify opportunities to improve processes using a continuous improvement mindset.
- Anticipate parts requirements, follow purchasing procedures, and acquire parts proactively.
- Maintain safe working conditions and comply with state/federal health and safety regulations.
- Follow DFA good manufacturing practices (GMP) and corporate regulatory, food safety, quality, and sanitation requirements.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade/technical school certification in electrical, PLC/HMI, mechanical, welding/fabrication, refrigeration, or plumbing preferred.
- 2–4 years of experience in maintenance, mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic, computer-controlled equipment, PLC, or HVAC, preferably in manufacturing.
- Experience with lubricating, cleaning, material handling, motor control, relay control, process control, and packaging equipment.
- Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems preferred.
- Certification/licensure may be required during employment.
Skills
- Knowledge of charts, tables, drawings, specifications, schedules, and wiring diagrams.
- Ability to inspect equipment, recognize potential problems, and take corrective action to prevent failures or downtime.
- Proficiency in using maintenance tools, hand/power tools, electric meters, and material handling equipment safely.
- Ability to perform maintenance/repairs independently and assist with complex repairs.
- Ability to plan and execute minor to mid-sized projects from start to installation.
- Ability to present process/procedure improvement ideas and adapt to change effectively.
- Ability to work without constant supervision and collaborate in a team environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills to diagnose issues and implement solutions.
- Clear verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic math skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division) using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
