About the Role
The CNC Machinist will set up, adjust, and operate CNC lathes and/or mills as well as special types of machine tools. The position performs diversified machining operations on standard work requiring tolerance and finish specifications, drawing on a general knowledge of machining practices and techniques. The employee will work with various machinery and metalworking materials in a machine shop environment, including cutting fluids, lubricants, and metal shavings.
Responsibilities
- Interpret drawings, sketches, and specifications to complete machining operations.
- Edit CNC programs to manufacture parts according to blueprints.
- Set up machines to achieve close tolerances, proper fitting, and alignment of machined parts.
- Obtain required first‑piece inspections and perform work‑in‑progress inspections using a variety of measuring devices.
- Maintain records of time, part counts, first‑piece inspections, requisition forms, and other job documentation.
- Fabricate jigs, fixtures, or other specialized non‑production devices as qualified and assigned.
- Acquire raw material, supplies, and tools when necessary.
- Keep the work area clean and orderly, work safely, and adhere to all quality procedures and standards.
- Perform first‑piece inspections on basic products for other machinists, as qualified and assigned.
- Conduct routine preventative maintenance of machines according to the PM schedule.
- Troubleshoot drawings, machining, tooling, programming, material issues, and make competent decisions related to the job.
- Maintain and monitor machine shop equipment.
- Safeguard against improper use and incorrect set‑ups to prevent damage to machines or components.
- Detect errors through frequent tolerance and quality checks.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- 3+ years of shop experience as a machinist.
- Technical training in shop math and blueprint reading.
- Experience with GD&T.
- Clear oral and written communication skills.
- Organizational skills; ability to keep the area clean to 5S standards.
- Ability to meet productivity standards by completing work in a timely manner.
- Experience with Fanuc controls.
- Good hand‑eye coordination.
Physical Demands & Safety
- Frequent walking, standing, reaching, and bending; periodic lifting of moderate to heavy items may be required.
- Requires eye protection, steel‑toed footwear, and occasionally hand protection.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) includes safety glasses, steel‑toe boots, hearing protection, and gloves.
- Adherence to all safety procedures is mandatory.
