Liberty Elementary, part of Big Lake Schools, serves students in Early Childhood through 2nd grade. The district has a student population of 3,100 across four schools and values employees who are energetic, collaborative, and passionate about education and technology.

About the role

Under the direction of district administrators, the Classroom Teacher develops lesson plans to present district curriculum, instructs students, and evaluates student progress. Teachers collaborate with instructional professionals, administrators, parents, counselors, and other district personnel to address student needs and support district learning initiatives.

Liberty Elementary emphasizes Social Emotional Learning (SEL) with explicit tier-one instruction in all classrooms. The school values systematic instruction in foundational skills and core literacy knowledge.

    • Plans for and responds to disruptive behaviors.
    • Integrates routines to maximize teaching and learning time.
  • Organizes for Engagement
    • Structures a learning environment that facilitates collaborative learning.
    • Responds to diverse learning preferences and needs.
    • Uses culturally inclusive resources aligned with curriculum.
    • Arranges the learning environment to support behavior management.
    • Proactively addresses behaviors to maintain an orderly environment.
    • Facilitates instructional strategies that promote student agency.
  • Utilizes and Responds to Data/Information
    • Analyzes student data to address learner variability.
    • Applies understanding of student needs to instructional planning.
    • Uses metacognitive strategies, including self- and peer-assessment.
    • Develops and communicates success criteria for assessments.
  • Plans and Delivers Effective Instruction
    • Applies understanding of learner variability to instructional planning.
    • Uses curricular resources aligned with essential learning outcomes (ELOs).
    • Demonstrates effective use of instructional planning components: Launch, Explore, Summarize.
    • Reflects on instruction using metacognitive practices.
    • Employs teacher-as-facilitator strategies to promote student agency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
  • K-5 Licensure or Birth-3rd Grade Licensure.
  • Certified teaching certificate from the State of Minnesota.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Background in Structured Literacy.
  • LETRS training.
  • Understanding of Social Emotional Learning (SEL).
