1st and 2nd Shift Panel Saw Machine Operator

About the Role

We have Panel Saw Operator positions open on our 1st and 2nd shifts. This individual should be familiar with the panel saw’s safety features and guidelines, have a keen eye for quality, and be responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the entire panel saw area. The role involves coordinating and working closely with the upcoming shift to determine any needs that may arise regarding changeover.

Responsibilities

• Start up and shut down the machine.
• Understand the programming of the panel saw, including how to locate and maneuver the programs needed to operate the machine.
• Understand the machine’s codes or learn them as needed.
• Change blades and re-order or sharpen blades.
• Communicate with QA and Lead to review parts or quality issues.
• Work with QA and Lead to eliminate scrap production.
• Conduct basic maintenance on the panel saw.
• Familiarity with all emergency shut-offs, stops, or resets.
• Understand and follow the enhanced dispatch list.
• Enter ECOs and submit maintenance requests.
• Understand and follow all lock-out procedures.
• Presence in the workplace is an essential function of this job.

Requirements

• Mechanical aptitude.
• Excellent understanding of the metric system and the metric tools necessary to operate the machine.
• Excellent communication skills to ensure smooth communication between shifts.
• Ability to read CAD drawings preferred.
• Prior CNC experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge of our support system (e.g., Fourth Shift).
• Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language for safety purposes in an understandable manner.

Working Conditions

Our production environment is typical for wood manufacturing and includes loud noise, dust, and aromas. While this is an indoor operation, temperatures vary with outdoor conditions, and some areas of the shop may be hot or cold. Workers may be subject to vibration, moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, and/or heat.

Physical Requirements

• Production positions are physically demanding and may be strenuous, requiring standing for long periods.
• Frequent walking, lifting, and carrying of up to 50 pounds.
• Extending arms, grasping with hands, and flexing of wrists.
• Bending, twisting, and ongoing rotations of movements.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and push or pull up to 150 lbs.
