About the role

Provide technical advice, guidance and training regarding assigned engineering program areas. Support the highway transportation system through the design, inspection, construction and maintenance of bridges and structures to the highest standards of safety and quality.

Responsibilities

• Analyze and interpret engineering data and information.
• Prepare complete, clear and concise reports and recommendations.
• Establish an effective line of communication between VDOT, contractors, government agencies and the public.
• Investigate issues and resolve complaints.
• Review schedule of inspections, coordinate assigned structures and ensure inspections are performed on schedule.
• Review consultant invoices to ensure structures have been inspected in accordance with provisions of the letter of agreement (LOA) with appropriate notifications of payment.
• Use established VDOT policies and procedures in the development and delivery of engineering projects.
• Inspect structures and prepare reports.
• Document recommendations for repairs or rehabilitations.
• Submit critical findings to ensure public safety and timely response to conditions and situations requiring accelerated notification.
• Manage assigned activities to ensure deliverables are met within the established scope and timeline.
• Assist in the management of projects and tasks including development of and managing the scope, schedule, budget, deliverables, change management, quality, and status reports.
• Complete multiple concurrent tasks and assignments, and report updates on their status.
• Manage special program initiatives and projects as assigned.
• Serve and represent VDOT or assigned program area on various committees and work groups.
• Perform load rating analysis.
• Assist in the preparation of load rating analysis.
• Perform QC and QA inspections.
• Work with team leaders and municipalities to schedule and perform quality assurance and quality control inspection reviews.
• Prepare summary report findings, making appropriate recommendations.
• Conduct briefing evaluations, providing feedback and follow-up actions.
• Review inspection reports.
• Review reports prepared by team leaders and consultants.
