About the role

MCOT (Mobile Crisis Outreach Team) services are community-based and available 24 hours per day, every day of the year. The Crisis Clinician utilizes the most effective, least restrictive approaches and evidenced-based interventions until the crisis is resolved or the individual is transitioned into a more clinically appropriate environment. MCOT provides expedited access to care in critical situations as an essential mobile provider of crisis services for children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a behavioral health crisis.

The MCOT case manager dispatches to the location of the individual experiencing a behavioral health crisis, including schools, emergency rooms, homes, and BTCS clinics, to provide crisis intervention, screening, referral, relapse prevention, and follow-up services. MCOT also provides follow-up services which may include case management, individual and group skills training, Person-Centered Recovery Planning, supported housing/employment, discharge planning, and linkage to ongoing services.

Responsibilities

  • Provides empathetic active listening and de-escalation
  • Engages in person-centered safety planning, utilizing critical thinking and solution-focused problem solving
  • Ensures crisis follow-up and relapse prevention occurs, providing support once the crisis has resolved
  • Communicates effectively with people and families from diverse cultures and socio-economic backgrounds
  • Facilitates and coordinates placement
  • Partners with families, first responders, schools, hospitals, and community agencies
  • Demonstrates skills and expertise using integrated computer database programs to access files and document services
  • Organizes and prioritizes work assignments
  • Works independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Assumes a flexible work schedule, including rotating on-call responsibilities after-hours, weekends, and holidays (a daily stipend is offered for each day of on-call)
  • Cross-trains to support crisis programs, including Diversion Center, Adult Crisis Respite, Youth Therapeutic Respite, and 911 Dispatch

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services or a minimum of 24 credits in a human services field if degree is in another discipline
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mental health diagnoses
  • Minimum of two years of case management experience
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and maintenance of approved driver’s status throughout employment
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced, recovery-focused environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Pursuit of clinical licensure in counseling, behavior analysis, family therapy, social work, or a related field
  • Advanced licensure (e.g., LPC-A, LCSW-A)
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Experience in providing concurrent documentation
  • Licensure as a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC)

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of principles, methods, techniques, and practices of working with individuals experiencing mental health, substance use, and/or developmental crisis

Pay

Hourly salary range: $25.23 – $32.48

Annual salary range: $52,478.40 - $67,558.40

Differentials:

  • $1.00/hour for 2 years of previous experience in a similar role
  • Up to $4.00/hour for tenure with BTCS
  • $0.75/hour for bilingual (Spanish) proficiency
  • $1.00/hour for LPC-A, LCSW-A, or advanced licensure
  • $0.50/hour for LCDC licensure

Schedule

  • Rotating on-call responsibilities, including after-hours, weekends, and holidays
  • Flexible work schedule
