About the role

The GATE Store Food Service Associate ensures customer service is the first priority by providing a friendly and efficient experience for guests. This role involves routine food preparation, customer assistance, and collaboration with the Store Kitchen Manager and Store Manager to control store operations and inventory.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers with finding products and provide product information.
  • Prepare food as directed and operate food production equipment.
  • Stock coolers and shelves, ensuring a high level of cleanliness and organization.
  • Perform minor maintenance and repairs on store equipment.
  • Operate the register to process cash and credit card payments.
  • Assist in training new and existing team members on food preparation, customer service, and kitchen safety procedures.
  • Arrive to work on time and follow GATE standards for uniform and appearance.
  • Attend required training, safety courses, and meetings.
  • Greet customers and assist with questions about products or services.
  • Ensure a friendly and efficient checkout experience, handling all payments according to GATE policies.
  • Contribute to a positive and supportive team environment.
  • Communicate accurately and positively to customers and staff, addressing inquiries and resolving complaints.
  • Reinforce and abide by Federal, State, and Local laws, rules, and regulations, including company policy.
  • Maintain or obtain Food Safety Certification.
  • Utilize organizational skills to maintain a clean and well-stocked store.
  • Perform minor repairs and maintenance of store food equipment while ensuring food quality and kitchen cleanliness.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the facility, including restrooms, floors, windows, and storage rooms.
  • Follow all food safety regulations, including proper food handling, storage, and temperature control.
  • Properly store and rotate ingredients to minimize waste and ensure freshness.
  • Prepare made-to-order food items according to the set menu, following standard recipes and portion guidelines.
  • Accommodate customer requests for menu customizations while maintaining food quality and consistency.
  • Provide friendly and efficient service, assisting customers with menu choices and answering questions about ingredients and preparation methods.
  • Ensure proper portion control and presentation of all food items.
  • Perform additional tasks as requested by the Kitchen and Store Managers.

Requirements

  • Successfully complete a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, holidays, and split shifts.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend English at a level sufficient to communicate effectively with customers and team members.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to perform repetitive movements over long periods of time.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, and reach (including overhead).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced food service environment with exposure to heat, cold, and various kitchen equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Qualifications

  • Basic mathematic knowledge and ability to follow safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to gain product knowledge through training.
  • Previous experience in a convenience store, restaurant, fast food, or related environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Food Safety.
